Job summary

This is a replacement post. The successful candidate will work with consultant and non-consultant paediatricians to provide a complete range of acute paediatric services within the Northern sector of the Trust. This will include out of hours cover for acute paediatrics and the neonatal unit. The post-holder will have responsibility for providing care for Children with Epilepsy within the Northern Sector of the Western Trust. Depending on clinical need there may be occasions when children with Epilepsy in the Southern sector also require specialist advice. The post-holder will work with a team of two Epilepsy nurse specialists in the Northern Sector as well as one nurse specialist in the Southern Sector. Paediatric EEG facilities are available on site and it is expected that there will be close liaison with the tertiary Paediatric Neurology team based at the Royal Belfast Hospital for sick Children.

Main role responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership
  • Set standards of clinical care
  • Have a responsibility for teaching and training
  • Promote integration between primary and secondary care services
  • Initiate and undertake audit
  • Provide paediatric and neonatal services in conjunction with consultant colleagues
  • Assess children where there are child protection concerns
  • Have responsibility for care for children with Epilepsy within the Trust
  • Ensure high standards of clinical care by providing clear standards, providing advice and encouraging audit
  • Co-ordinate medical opinion in the best interest of patient care
